It is advisable that when we reach adulthood, owning a home and paying our bills is our top priority. We often put ourselves in different jobs just to make a living and pay our monthly dues on time. It is really a tough job to become an adult that’s why a lot of people are finding ways to make life easier.

Just like this man who chose to live on a huge sand castle to avoid paying his rent. Marcio Mizael Matolias is 44 years old Brazilian guy who has been living his dream for the past 22 years. He is also known as ‘The King’ by his neighbors and friends in the beautiful beach of Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro.

For over 22 years, Matolias has lived in a huge sandcastle on the beach of Barra da Tijuca just to avoid paying any rent or bills for that matter. He built his own giant sandcastle and sleep inside a sleeping bag at night.

Matolias regularly water the walls and turrets of his sand castle to prevent the fine sand from crumbling. Sometimes when there is a tropical storm, he cannot just simply sleep inside the castle. So he sleeps in a friend’s house and rebuilds the sandcastle after the storm had passed.

Aside from building huge sand castles and enjoying the beautiful beach, Matolias also plays golf and entertains tourists. He even runs a second-hand bookshop next to his castle to earn and uses it to buy his daily meal.

Sometimes, hotels and businesses centers pay him to sculpt huge sandcastle for their special events.

The castle is also supported by wooden beams to resist forces of the ocean breeze. Inside the castle, a 32 square foot bedroom is filled with his few possessions and books he likes to read.

His sandcastle is being visited by tourists and local kids to see the astounding sculpture. Despite the fact that his sand castle holds in heat where sleeping becomes impossible due to the warm temperature, Matolias is happy living his simple life at the beach.
